Poul M. Volther’s favorite chair
The J111 chair was designed by Poul M. Volther in 1971 The chair had a very special place in the designer’s heart when he won a furniture award for the beautiful design
The chair is both comfortable and beautiful – and thus another good example of Poul M. Volther’s fantastic talent as a furniture architect The J111 chair is for those, who love Danish craftsmanship And for those who want to combine timeless design with high seating comfort
With its minimalist design, the J111 chair has many uses Use it as a dining table chair, in the hallway, in the bedroom and the dressing room, in the cottage or as extra chairs for those special days with many guests. The chair has a wide seat and curved back, which provides a very high seating comfort. The slightly conical legs create extra stability. They can be unscrewed so that the chair does not take up much space during transport, or if you want to have a couple of chairs as extra chairs for those extra guests.
MAKE nordic’s relaunched version of the Volthers J111 is made of solid FSC-certified oak with a natural matt lacquer or a black lacquer.
A sustainable chair
The J111 chair is handmade in FSC-certified oak in collaboration with Danish suppliers. The chair is manufactured at a recognized furniture factory in West Jutland. When we choose FSC-certified wood, we do so out of consideration for both nature, humans and animals.
The chair is packed in a FSC cardboard and sent with GLS. The legs are easily screwed on before the chair is used. That way we avoid a waste of space and unnecessary air in the packaging. In that way the transport have room for more furniture, and do not have to drive as many times. It provides a more environmentally friendly transport.
The J111 chair is handmade by skilled carpenters. It is assembled and polished by hand to give the chair the soft and beautiful finish. The seat is made of 30 mm. oak veneer, giving it a strong and stable construction. Legs and back are made of solid oak. The back has contour-cut and curved pieces of wood that give the chair its characteristic and light appearance.
J111 produces FSC-certified solid oak that is treated with a natural water based lacquer or black water based lacquer.
